Case Study: The John Lyon School

ABOUT

The John Lyon School is partnered with Harrow School and based nearby in Harrow on the Hill. A carefully planned project to enhance teaching and learning systems was suddenly fast-tracked and the school needed some urgent help at short notice.


THE CHALLENGE

The John Lyon School had done the initial setup in preparation for a rollout of Microsoft Teams, a hub for teaching and learning using the Microsoft Office365 platform. What was intended to be a carefully planned and measured approach to using this new technology for teaching and learning was very suddenly fast-tracked during the coronavirus pandemic that required the school to send pupils home and as a result to immediately scale up remote learning.


THE SOLUTION

As the school had worked with inTEC EDUCATION before and knew that they needed expert help from a trusted Microsoft Gold Partner, they got in touch. It was clear that they needed urgent help so that their teacher and pupils could continue to teach and learn remotely with Teams.

We quickly agreed their objectives and success criteria, allowing us to define and agree a scope of work that included technical consultancy and deployment services.

This included:

  • Review the Microsoft Teams configuration, previously completed to a basic level by the school
  • Make changes and enhancements to the Teams configuration, following Microsoft guidelines and recommendation
  • Create custom Powershell scripts for Teams configuration and administration
  • Provide training for all stakeholders, including the IT staff and teachers, so that they can start using Teams immediately
  • Create documentation and user guides for reference
  • Provide further technical support as the school deployed Teams
  • Out of necessity this was a fast track project from start to finish, the majority of the work being completed in a single day, enabling the school to start remote teaching the very next day.
